What are subscription types?

Subscription types are modern versions of classic "email lists" containing contacts who have given their consent to receive communication from you.

When importing a contact to MarketHype, whether through an integration, sign-up form, or manual import, the contact must be opted in to one or several specific subscription types.

If contacts opt out by, for example, unsubscribing, their consent will be revoked from the subscription type.

By default, each MarketHype organization will have a subscription type called "Marketing," containing consent collected from contacts imported from the ticketing or booking system.

You can add more subscription types based on your organization's needs. This guide explains how to create a subscription type.

When are subscription types used?

1. Marketing communication

When sending an email or SMS, you must specify whether it is a "marketing" or "non-marketing" communication.

When selecting "marketing" as the communication type, you must choose one or more subscription types in the recipient filter in order to send the email or SMS. This ensures that you only send marketing communications to contacts who have provided valid consent.

2. Specify and separate types of consent

As contacts may have provided different consent for various types of communication, subscription types are used to keep them separate.

Here are some examples of when different subscription types can be used to separate your audience based on types of consent.

  • Based on a legal basis, Freely given, and Legitimate interest

  • Based on communications groups, such as "media contacts" and "partners"

  • Based on communication preferences, such as "event news" and "restaurant news"

Subscription type in the filter

The first block in the filter, "Subscribers," will display all your active subscription types. You can choose from these when sending an email or SMS and when segmenting your audience.
