Step 1: Create a segment

Start by going to Audience โ†’ Segments or by clicking here to get to the overview with all your saved segments. The Create template button is then found to the right.

When it's time to choose a template, you get to choose between ready-made templates or start from scratch with a Blank one.

Ready-made templates will already have a defining filter for the target group, a name, and a description, but you can modify and edit all of them in the next step if you'd like.

Step 2: Define your segment

In this step, you start with a name, a description, and an avatar for your segment.

Then, it's time to customize the filter to target the contacts you want to isolate.

Include and Exclude

The most common filters for segments are the categories found under the Include and Exclude block. They give you the following categories to add to your segments:

  • Behavior

  • Contact attribute

  • Order

Subscribers

Subscribers can be used if you have a certain subscription type that you want to base a segment on. For example, if you have a list of all your subscribers who actively signed up for news from you and want to create a segment to target all of them who haven't made a purchase yet.

Step 3: Save your segment

When you feel ready, click on Save, and the statistics will start to generate.

When creating your segment, make sure you are happy with the filter criteria. The filter for a saved segment can't be edited after it has been saved. If you want to make any adjustments afterward, you need to create a new one.
