Merge tags (also known as personalization tags or data tags) are text codes that correspond to values in your contact data. When your email or SMS is sent, merge tags are resolved to a personalized value.

An example of a merge tag is {{person.firstName}} that automatically will be replaced with the contact's first name, for example, "Hello Simon".

MarketHype will offer standard merge tags that can be used for email, SMS, and automation. Click here to see the available standard merge tags.

For automated emails and automated SMS, additional merge tags are available in the Event and Order aspects, making it possible to pick up information about the event and the order. You can find available merge tags for event and booking automations here.

Why should I use merge tags?

Merge tags are a great way to make the communication more personal. Calling the recipient by their first name in the subject line might make them feel more comfortable and open-minded, leading to them opening the email.

The event and hospitality merge tags that are available also make automations smoother and easier to generalize and, at the same time, more personalized. You won't have to create an automation for each event or order. Instead, you can use the merge tags to pick up each recipient's event name, arrival date, etc.
